Laying the FOUNDATION part 1

Welcome back to the Eating with Purpose series.  We began exploring the concept that we create Heaven or Hell within our bodies with what we consume.  If you have not done so, please read that piece before starting this one. 

I believe that each of us truly want a healthy, energetic and vibrant body (heaven).  As parents you might also have the desire to raise healthy, energetic, clear minded and vibrant children (more heaven).  With that goal or end result in mind, we need to find out what is in the way of achieving that goal.  With knowledge and insight, healthy choices can then be made that are in alignment with the end result.

There is quite a bit of information I would like to pass along to you.  I am choosing to break this down in to digestible pieces so you can embrace these concepts and changes rather than go into overwhelm and resistance.  Creating a healthy body and lifestyle is is no different than putting your awareness on creating your dream home.  In fact, take a moment to close your eyes and visualize this dream home.  What does it look like?  How many windows does it have?  What kind of kitchen, bath, bedrooms etc?  Do you have that visual???   Great... now... imagine that beautiful house sitting right on top of the city landfill.  The foundation would be on smelly, rotten objects.  Before you even thought about building this gorgeous home, steps would be taken to clear the land of all the garbage and debris.  Next the hole would be dug, cement would be poured for the foundation, then the structure would go up.  Eventually there would be a roof and windows leading up to the time you could move into this beautiful home.

We have this desire to have a healthy body, with tons of energy and life force, yet that very same body is standing on the city landfill.  Part 1 in Laying the FOUNDATION will be to identify a few of the known allergens or toxins coming into our system with our food.  During this process you will also be identifying how you feel in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies.  We will look at where you place specific food items and their possible response in your body/system.  We will also begin the process of taking proactive steps to remove or replace those items with foods that will allow the body to heal itself.


Each part in this series will build upon itself.  I am asking you to work.  I am asking you to explore.  I am asking you to take ownership for what has been created so that the desired end result  can be achieved.  Let's begin to Lay the FOUNDATION in part 1.

Step 1: Becoming Aware with a Food Journal.  For the next seven days, track everything that goes into your mouth.
ñ Be very specific on your journal entries.
ñ Note the time of day, quantity (2 cups of salted peanuts), quality (whole wheat bread vs white or rye) of the foods you consume.
ñ Did you use condiments, sugars, milks? How much?
ñ How much water did you drink?  When?
ñ Did you drink soda? Coffee? How much?  When? Etc.
ñ Take the time to note how you FEEL within your physical body.  Are you aching or stiff in your joints?  Do you have swollen eyes, fingers etc.  How is your mental clarity?  Are you clear headed, foggy, have a headache etc.  What type of emotions are you experiencing; cranky, crying, manic, depressed etc.

Below is a example of how to track your day.  You can create your journal in any notebook that works for you.  Give yourself plenty of room.  For your convenience I will attach a tracking form you can print off to use.

Here's a personal story. I connected with Dr. Nadine this past Spring online. I've been working with her on changing my diet. I thought I ate really healthy. My husband and I where looking for a health change. I'm not extremely over weight but definitely needed to loose about 30-40 pounds. Dr. Nadine started coaching us on eating for our blood type. We decided to give it a try. We are on our 4th week and are blown away over the changes taking place in our bodies. We are both dropping weight like crazy. We are moderate exercisers and haven't bumped up our exercise at all. All we did was change our diet. I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't try it my self. I'm so thankful I did.

Spirit, Mind & Body Parenting






Spirit, mind and body. We assume you've all heard this many times. There's a reason for this. Through-out history this has been spoken of because they do go hand in hand and complement each other. We are similar to the inner workings of a wristwatch, the intricacy and how all the parts need each other to properly function. The inner workings of a human and a wristwatch are very similar because we are multifaceted and require regular maintenance to function efficiently. Our spirit, mind and body all need to be properly maintained so we can function as our highest supraliminal selves, full of positive energy keeping us motivated through-out the rest of the summer.

Parenting in the summertime can come with many challenges. School is out, the kids are home all day and choices are being made by families. Some are scheduling vacations, summer camps, family reunions or summer school. Some children are happy staying home and playing with family and friends.
This is a beneficial time of the year to break away from day to day routines, connect with your children and reinforce your family’s spiritual tools and values. Any extra time a parent gets to spend with their child is irreplaceable. Treasure these priceless moments. Make the most of it!

Children are constantly absorbing their environment around them.
Whether you are on a family field trip at a local museum or taking a walk through the park, there is so much learning taking place. For instance, eighteen years ago our two families took our children to the local train station to witness the last trip of a very famous historical train as it made its final journey through Arizona before retiring to a museum. The cause and effect of this adventure is still spoken about by our grown children to this day. Going on explorations and field trips encourages children to use their imagination and to see the world from different points of view. Check your local newspaper for current events and family activities happening in your city.



Exposing your children to the arts and music field is like food for the soul. Their energy sky rockets from within and starts to bubble with ideas and visions of how they see the world at hand. The challenging part is to introduce them to all you can in this arena so they can find what they connect with or gravitate towards. They will let you know their likes and dislikes. Allow their individuality, sit back and watch them blossom.

Encourage your children to live outside the box. Demonstrate how to release stress and have fun by expressing themselves through a freedom dance. Have your children close their eyes and move their bodies to whatever feels natural to them. This is a harmonious way to connect to their inner selves.

By incorporating the use of daily affirmations you can help build your child’s self-esteem, instill confidence and build your child’s inner strength.
The discipline of taking control of our thoughts and shaping them with positive reinforcement can become a stupendous lifelong learning spiritual tool.

Have fun with this activity. Write affirmations with your children on poster board and place on bedroom walls. Place affirmations in your child’s lunch box. Write them on the bathroom mirror and say them out loud. We’ve even seen homes with affirmations painted on the living room walls. Have your child stand in front of a mirror and say; “I love myself”, “I love my body”, “I let my creativity flow” or “Studying comes easy to me.” Be creative and write affirmations that will benefit your children. Affirmations can be used to help create a sense of balance and Joy.
