1. Digital picture of mom and child: Make a frame out
of Popsicle sticks or twigs or you can purchase an inexpensive frame at Target or Michaels.
2. Picking spring wild flowers: If you live in an area where wildflowers are in bloom, this would surely put a smile on moms face. Pick out her favorite vase and fill them with wildflowers.
3. Relaxation Pass: If you have Women's club
or the WMCA in your area, ask them if they have daily passes. Where we live it is only $10.00 for a day pass to swim, soak in the hot tub, steam room, sauna or exercise.
4. Give the gift of a manicure: Look for a
beauty school in your area to purchase a gift certificate for a manicure. Usually
under $15.00
5. Flower basket: Replenish mom's last years flowers basket. Go to your local nursery
pick out 4 or 5 different kinds of flowers that you can critique to your mothers liking.
If she wants humming birds, lady bugs or butterflies pick out flowers that will attract these to her flower basket. Hummingbirds love color, especially red. Trumpet Vines, Bee Balm, Columbine and Fuchsia are very popular choices. Candytuft, Butterfly bush, Phlox are famous for attracting butterflies. Angelica, Marigold and Yarrow attract beneficial insects such as lady bugs.
6. Coupon Book: Make your
own coupons to give to mom in a homemade mothers
day card. Create your coupon book around the age level of your child. Coupons could include; one vacuuming, washing dishes, taking out the trash, a foot rub, paint mom's toe nails (Helpful hint: if child is under five set up lots of newspaper
for spillage.) Cook dinner one
night , take her out for a ice cream, sweep off the deck, clean out the car, brush the
dogs or cat, fill up the water bowl. walk the dog, draw up a bath for mom. The golden coupon
could be for solitude, peace and quite for mom to do what ever she has been wanting to do.
7. Reading material: Buy her
favorite book or magazine she has been wanting.
8. Personalized book: Younger kids
could make mom a special homemade book that expresses how much they love her. Take 5 or 6 pieces of computer paper stacked together, fold in half,
put three staples down the folded side to create the binding, provide child with
supervision, scissors, glue, felt, tape, markers, crayons, old magazines they can
cut pictures out of, and let their creativity flow.
